Argentina midfielder Exequiel Palacios has made history by becoming the first World Cup winner to sign for Ipswich Town after his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. The 27-year-old left the Bundesliga club for an undisclosed fee and has committed to a four-year contract with the Premier League newcomers.

Palacios was a key member of the Argentina squad that triumphed in the 2022 World Cup and reached the final in the recent summer tournament. Additionally, he has celebrated victory in the Copa America twice with his national team.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Palacios stated, "This is a club with great ambition and I am excited to play football in England and compete against some of the best clubs and players in the world."

This transfer marks Ipswich's 11th signing of the current transfer window. Palacios notably started in Argentina's 3-1 victory over World Cup debutants Jordan during the group stage of the 2026 tournament, marking his only appearance in that competition.
