Spanish sources describe this operation as considerably more economical than alternatives like Marc Cucurella. Grimaldo’s valuation on Transfermarkt is approximately €20 million, suggesting Leverkusen is willing to accept a discount, particularly given his contract running until 2027, making this summer a crucial window for a meaningful transfer fee before he approaches free agency.

Leverkusen's need to sell is further emphasized by their sixth-place finish in the Bundesliga, absence from Champions League football next season, and a coaching transition to Carles Martínez Novell. Grimaldo’s profile aligns with Diego Simeone’s system, being an attacking-minded wing-back with a proven record of 14 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances during the 2025/26 season, totaling 30 goals and 45 assists in 145 matches for Leverkusen.
