The New York Yankees have secured a significant addition to their lineup by trading for Luis García Jr., a breakout power hitter from the Washington Nationals. Reports from ESPN confirm that the deal involves four right-handed pitchers heading to Washington, although neither team has officially announced the trade yet.

The pitchers included in the trade are:

• Jake Bird
  Jack Cebert, 24, was the Yankees' 15th-round pick last season. Initially a reliever at Texas Tech, he has transitioned to a starting role this year, boasting a 4.03 ERA with 96 strikeouts over 82 ⅔ innings and has already reached Double-A.

Luis García, 26, who hails from New York, has experienced a standout season, hitting a career-high 24 home runs, including 18 in his last 47 games. He will remain under team control until 2027. García has made the switch to first base this year, but with Ben Rice already occupying that position, the Yankees could utilize him in the designated hitter role, especially with stars like Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton currently sidelined by injuries.

Since June 1, the Yankees have struggled offensively, averaging only 3.94 runs per game, one of the lowest rates in baseball. With Judge out, the addition of García is expected to inject much-needed left-handed power into a lineup that desperately requires reinforcements. The Nationals notably held García out of Sunday’s lineup as the trade deadline approached.
