Wrexham is on the verge of appointing Steve Nickson, currently the head of recruitment at Newcastle United, as their new sporting director. Nickson is expected to leave his position this summer to join the ambitious Welsh Championship club, marking a significant step in Wrexham's plans to enhance their squad.

Having played a crucial role in high-profile transfers such as Joelinton's £40m move from Hoffenheim in 2019 and Bruno Guimaraes' signing from Lyon in 2022, Nickson's expertise has garnered attention from clubs like West Ham United. Although Newcastle has not officially confirmed his departure, he is anticipated to start his new role in September.

Wrexham views this appointment as a pivotal move in their quest for promotion to the Premier League. Nickson will collaborate closely with manager Phil Parkinson, who has been kept informed about the negotiations and is eager to leverage Nickson's extensive experience.

While the specifics of Nickson's responsibilities remain unconfirmed, he is expected to engage in transfer activities and broader football operations. Despite not yet adding to their squad, Parkinson expressed confidence in making necessary signings to strengthen the team for the relentless Championship challenge.
