Hearts are poised to appoint Wouter Vrancken as their new head coach, succeeding Derek McInnes. The 47-year-old Belgian, who previously managed Sint-Truiden, is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Vrancken boasts an impressive managerial resume, having won the Belgian Cup with Mechelen in 2019 and leading Racing Genk to a second-place finish in the Belgian Pro League two years ago. His experience includes over 300 matches with various clubs, including Lommel, Mechelen, Genk, Gent, and Sint-Truiden.

As he takes on this new challenge, Vrancken will be tasked with:

• Building on Hearts' runner-up finish in the Scottish Premiership to Celtic last season.
• Guiding the team through Champions League qualifying, with a matchup against Sturm Graz scheduled for July 22 in Austria and the return leg in Gorgie a week later.
• Preparing the squad for their opening match against Aberdeen on August 1, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The Jambos have already begun strengthening their squad, signing six new players, including Calvin Miller and Josh McPake. Notably, top scorer Lawrence Shankland has departed for Rangers, following McInnes.

Hearts sporting director Graeme Jones and chairman Calum Paterson conducted an extensive recruitment process, considering several candidates, including Maarten Martens and Rene Hake. Vrancken emerged as a favored choice, supported by insights from investor Tony Bloom's Jamestown Analytics.

The Hearts squad is set to return for pre-season training later this week, with hopes that Vrancken will be in place to lead them forward.
