Dan Burn, who came on as a second-half substitute, expressed the collective disappointment:

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. We nailed the gameplan pretty well. To go 1-0 up... then we got too passive, conceded too many crosses and too many chances. This will haunt me for a long time, I think.

Despite earlier victories against Mexico (3-2) and Norway (2-1), England struggled to maintain their momentum against the reigning champions. Burn noted the nerves that come with being so close to a historic achievement, adding, "Argentina have done that and got that confidence."

As England prepares for the third-place play-off against France on Saturday, Burn remains proud of the team's journey:

I don't think anyone really gave us a chance. We have done a lot of good, and honestly I thought we were going to do it.

Harry Kane, England's captain, echoed the sentiments of his teammates, stating, "When you're so close, 10 minutes away, and it slips out of your hands like that, obviously the lads are devastated."

Kane, who has scored six goals in the tournament, and Jude Bellingham, who shares the same tally, both reflected on the team's effort. Bellingham remarked, "The more beautiful the journey, the more heartbreaking the end is. I'm really proud of all my team-mates."
