Christy Ucheibe scored a penalty in the 93rd minute, igniting hopes for Nigeria, but a brilliant save by South Africa's goalkeeper Kaylin Swart denied Michelle Alozie at the last moment.

Ghana also advanced, defeating Ivory Coast 2-1, joining South Africa in the inter-confederation qualifiers. Nigeria's absence is shocking given their dominance, having participated in all nine Women's World Cups since 1991 and won Wafcon a record 10 times.

Hildah Magaia set up Kgatlana's opener in the 56th minute, while Jane's second goal followed a deflection. The next challenge for South Africa and Ghana comes in November and December, where they will compete against teams from Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea, and Ecuador. The top two teams will advance to a final qualifier in February, aiming for a spot in Brazil.
