This milestone was achieved during the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) held in Morocco, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the upcoming summer event. Any nation reaching the semi-finals automatically qualifies for the World Cup.

In a thrilling quarter-final, Algeria overcame a 10-player Ivory Coast team, winning 2-1. The match saw goals from Ines Khiri and Amira Ould Braham, following an early red card for N'Sira Oudraogo that left the Ivorians at a disadvantage.

Morocco claimed their World Cup berth with a 2-1 victory over South Africa, thanks to goals from Sakina Ouzraoui Diki and Hanane Ait El Haj. Cameroon also advanced, defeating Nigeria 1-0 with a stunning 30-yard free-kick from Myriam Nyadjou, a talented 19-year-old.

The fourth qualifying nation, Malawi, ranked 153rd in the world, pulled off a remarkable upset by defeating Ghana 2-1, with goals from Temwa Chawinga and Rose Kadzere after initially trailing.

Looking ahead, the Wafcon semi-finals will be held on Wednesday, featuring Morocco against Cameroon and Algeria facing Malawi. Meanwhile, the four teams eliminated in the quarter-finals—Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and South Africa—still have opportunities to qualify through intercontinental play-offs scheduled for November and December. Out of these ten nations, three will earn a place in the World Cup, commencing on June 24 and concluding on July 25.
