Manchester United has officially signed goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee. This acquisition marks the second signing of the summer, following the arrival of defender Andrea Medina.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has reportedly signed a three-year deal after United triggered the release clause in her contract with Leicester, which was renewed until 2025. During her three-year tenure at Leicester, Leitzig initially joined on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich and quickly became a regular starter, making nearly 70 appearances in all competitions. However, she could not prevent Leicester from facing relegation in the Women's Super League last season.

In her own words, Leitzig expressed her excitement:

It is a real honour to be a Manchester United player. I'm ready to bring all of my experience of competing at the highest level to help the team to have a successful season.

She also acknowledged the competitive environment within the squad, stating, "I cannot wait to push all together to maintain the high performance standards that this club deserves."

Leitzig has been a long-term target for United, with BBC Sport reporting in 2023 that the club had initially made contact with her while she was on loan at Leicester. She will don the number 25 shirt at Manchester United.
