Summary

Liverpool Football Club has unveiled permanent memorials outside Anfield and at their training ground, honoring former women's team manager Matt Beard. Beard passed away on 20 September 2025, at the age of 47, having managed the team from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2021 to 2025.

During his tenure, Liverpool achieved remarkable success, winning back-to-back Women's Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. Under his guidance, the team also secured promotion back to the WSL in 2022 by clinching the FA Women's Championship title. Beard was recognized for his exceptional coaching ability, being named WSL manager of the season twice and inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame earlier this year.

A private ceremony took place at the club's Melwood training ground, attended by players, staff, and Beard's family, where a memorial garden was unveiled. Additionally, a commemorative tree was planted in his honor on 97 Avenue outside Anfield Stadium.

In conjunction with these memorials, Liverpool's home Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday will support the Together Against Suicide initiative, aimed at raising awareness for suicide prevention. This campaign runs from 4 to 14 September, promoting conversations to help reduce stigma around seeking support.

Furthermore, a group of Reds supporters plans to raise funds for Andy's Man Club, a men's suicide prevention charity, by walking from Melwood to the Brewdog Stadium in St Helens, Liverpool Women's home ground, ahead of Sunday's WSL match against Tottenham. Last September, the Liverpool FC Foundation also launched the Kicking Off Conversations Hub to provide specialized support to fans.
