Liverpool has officially signed Khiara Keating, the talented England goalkeeper, on a three-year contract from Manchester City. The 22-year-old leaves City after her contract expiration, reuniting with manager Gareth Taylor, under whom she flourished during her time in Manchester.

In June, reports indicated that Keating had declined a contract extension at City amidst interest from Liverpool. A product of the Manchester City academy, she played a pivotal role in securing a second Women's Super League title for the team last season.

Keating expressed her excitement about joining Liverpool, stating, "[Liverpool is] such a big club and I think the women's team is striving for greatness. I think the style of football that they play suits me and my position. They're just going in the right direction and [it is] a project that I want to be part of."

She becomes Liverpool's fourth signing of the summer, aiming to secure a regular starting position after competing with Ayaka Yamashita for City's number one spot. Last season, Keating started only four WSL games but was part of the squad that won the Women's FA Cup.

Regarded as one of the country's best young goalkeepers, Keating was called up by England manager Sarina Wiegman for crucial Women’s World Cup qualifiers but missed out due to concussion. She was also a member of the victorious Euro 2025 squad and is eager to regain her place for next year's Women's World Cup in Brazil.

Under Taylor, who handed her her WSL debut, Keating made history by becoming the youngest goalkeeper to win the WSL Golden Glove award, achieving nine clean sheets in the 2023-24 season. Having gained experience through loan spells at AFC Fylde and Coventry United, she also boasts Women's Champions League experience.

Keating reflected on her journey, saying, "The start of my career has been nothing but amazing. I've gained platforms and done brilliantly so far. But I needed that missing [piece of the] puzzle. I think Liverpool can be that - somewhere I'm playing week-in, week-out and I'm getting good game time, to play with a good team and win trophies."

Liverpool sought a goalkeeper following the end of Jennifer Falk's loan in May, as hopes for a permanent deal fell through.
