Tottenham midfielder Drew Spence has made history by becoming the Women's Super League's all-time appearance record holder, marking a significant milestone in her career. At 34, she achieved this feat during Tottenham's match against Birmingham City on Sunday, making her 217th appearance in the league.

Spence surpassed former Chelsea captain Millie Bright and is on track to become the only outfield player at Tottenham to play 90 minutes in all WSL games this season. In an interview with BBC Sport, she expressed her pride:

"I've been around for a while! I'm incredibly proud to be able to do that... it's not just a proud moment for me, but also for my family."

Having spent 14 years at Chelsea before joining Tottenham in 2022, Spence has had a remarkable career, winning five league titles and four FA Cup trophies. She transitioned from England to Jamaica in 2021 and has consistently been a strong performer on the pitch.

Erin Cuthbert, a Chelsea midfielder, praised Spence, stating:

"She certainly deserves all the plaudits. To have that longevity is something I look up to. Now, she's a leader at Spurs."

As Tottenham's captain, Spence has played every minute of the current season and credits her fitness to better understanding her body and nutrition. Despite her success, she acknowledges past regrets regarding her preparation, emphasizing that those experiences have contributed to her growth.

Tottenham manager Martin Ho commended Spence for her dedication, stating:

"Her performances and her ability to adapt... she's taken huge steps. I have massive respect for Drew as a professional, and as a person for what she's done for the game."

Overall, Spence's journey highlights resilience and dedication, serving as an inspiration for the younger generation in women's football.
