The WNBA has officially rescinded a technical foul issued to Caitlin Clark, star player for the Indiana Fever, during their recent game against the Chicago Sky. This decision comes after Clark was penalized late in the third quarter of the Fever's 90-86 victory on October 7, 2023. The technical foul would have marked her eighth of the season, resulting in a one-game suspension for the upcoming matchup against the New York Liberty on October 10, 2023.

The incident occurred when Clark was bumped while driving to the basket. After no foul was called, she passed the ball to teammate Myisha Hines-Allen, inadvertently colliding with the official as she went out of bounds. The referee deemed that Clark had made excessive contact, leading to the technical foul.

Fever head coach Stephanie White also received a technical for her protests against the call. She remarked that the official believed Clark had "intentionally sought out the official" and made contact with her forearm. In her postgame comments, Clark expressed her hope that the foul would be overturned, stating, "It wasn't intentional or anything. I'm hoping it's getting rescinded."

White criticized the call, asserting it was a case of incidental contact and emphasizing the need for officials to have better situational awareness. After the game, the Fever promptly appealed the decision, which led to the WNBA's review.

Despite the controversy, Clark excelled during the game, contributing 26 points and 11 assists, including five 3-pointers. This performance marked her sixth game of the season with 25-plus points and 10-plus assists, breaking her own single-season WNBA record set in 2024.
