Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev in a thrilling four-set match on Centre Court. The World No 1 claimed his fifth Grand Slam title with a scoreline of 6-7 (7-9) 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 6-4, marking his 10th consecutive victory over Zverev.

Zverev, the first German men's singles finalist since Boris Becker in 1995, aimed to make history by winning his second Grand Slam immediately after his first, having triumphed at the French Open.

The match began with both players engaged in an intense battle, lasting 12 games in the first set. Zverev showcased his power, clinching the first set in a gripping tie-break. However, Sinner responded with determination, leveling the match by taking the second set after a fierce tie-break.

Midway through the third set, Zverev encountered a setback when he slipped while responding to a Sinner drop shot, injuring his right knee. Despite his frustration and a brief moment of agony, Zverev continued to fight but ultimately fell behind as Sinner capitalized on the opportunity.

As the fourth set progressed, Sinner broke Zverev’s serve for a 4-3 lead and maintained his composure to close out the match. After sealing his victory, Sinner celebrated by collapsing onto the turf, solidifying his position as one of the dominant players of his generation while chasing down rival Carlos Alcaraz's seven major titles.

This win places Sinner among an elite group of only ten men in the professional era to successfully defend the Wimbledon title.
