Ryan Fox made history at Royal Birkdale by winning The Open, becoming only the second New Zealander to lift the prestigious Claret Jug. After sinking an 11ft putt on the 18th hole, Fox, visibly emotional, celebrated what he described as an "unbelievable" achievement.

Back home in New Zealand, fans stayed up all night to watch Fox secure his first major championship. Reflecting on the moment, he shared, "I don't really know what to think at the moment," and expressed pride in bringing the trophy back to his children, Isobel and Margot.

Born in Tokoroa, Fox hails from a family steeped in sports. His father, Grant Fox, a celebrated fly-half for the All Blacks, and his grandfather, Merv Wallace, a former New Zealand cricket captain, have left a significant legacy in their respective sports. Fox noted, "We've got a great history in our family," while emphasizing that he felt no pressure to follow in their footsteps.

Fox turned professional in 2012 and has since achieved five wins on the DP World Tour, including titles at the BMW PGA Championship and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He dedicated his 2022 win at the Dunhill Links to his late friend, Shane Warne, saying, "I really wanted to try to do something special for Warney."

With this victory, Fox joins an elite group of Kiwis, becoming the fourth player from New Zealand to win a major, alongside legends like Sir Bob Charles and Michael Campbell.

Nick Dastey, General Manager of the PGA Tour of Australasia, praised Fox for his unwavering character, stating, "He hasn't changed from the moment he first turned professional...he is just a fantastic human being."

Looking ahead, Fox prepares for the upcoming 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota, as he continues to make his mark in the world of golf.
