As LeBron embarks on this new chapter, questions arise about the future of his son, Bronny James, who has played alongside him for the past two seasons.

On June 29, the Lakers guaranteed Bronny's contract for the 2026-27 season at $2.29 million as part of a four-year, $7.89 million deal after he was picked No. 55 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. With a team option of $2.48 million for the upcoming season, the Lakers currently have 16 players on their roster after signing Mattisse Thybulle, necessitating a cut before training camp.

Bronny's journey to the Lakers' playoff rotation has been extensive, showcasing his development despite the pressure of his father's legacy. In the 2024-25 season, he played 27 regular-season games, increasing to 42 the following year, and even earned playoff minutes as the Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets.

His potential as a 3-and-D guard off the bench looks promising, and given his minimal contract, the Lakers might opt to retain him despite LeBron's departure. The franchise has been active this offseason, adding Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes, among others.

However, the possibility of Bronny joining LeBron in Philadelphia exists, though previous comments from Jaylen Brown about Bronny could complicate matters.
