West Ham United has called on fans to eliminate an "offensive and divisive" chant that emerged during their opening Championship match against Burnley. The chant, which includes an "anti-Palestine message," was reportedly sung by a section of away supporters during the match on Sunday, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The club expressed concern regarding the chant aimed at winger Manor Solomon, who recently transferred from Tottenham Hotspur. Solomon, a 27-year-old Israeli international, has previously played on loan at Fulham and Leeds United.

In a statement released before West Ham's first home game of the season against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, the club emphasized the importance of representing the club positively. They stated:

Each and every supporter is an ambassador. Every supporter within our diverse fanbase should be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination, or abuse.

West Ham reinforced their commitment to creating an environment where all fans feel safe and respected. They acknowledged the traditional role of singing and chanting at matches but urged supporters to express their passion without causing division or offense.

Solomon, capped 49 times by Israel, previously won three titles while with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and played a pivotal role in helping Leeds secure the Championship title in 2024-25.
