Jonas Eidevall, now head coach of San Diego Wave, enjoys a calmer lifestyle compared to his time at Arsenal, stating, "I love the ocean" and appreciating the relaxed atmosphere of Del Mar. His team is currently in excellent form, boasting a five-game winning streak and holding second place in the NWSL, just one point behind the leaders with two matches left before the playoffs. Eidevall expresses optimism, saying, "We can also go all the way" in pursuit of silverware.

When Eidevall took charge 21 months ago, San Diego Wave faced significant challenges, including the departures of key players like Abby Dahlkemper and Alex Morgan. This necessitated a complete rebuild, which Eidevall approached by emphasizing teamwork and connection. He shared a proverb during his first team meeting:

If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.

Eidevall focused on developing a cohesive playing style, dedicating four weeks of pre-season to mastering ball distribution from the back. This strategy has paid off, as defenders like Kristen McNabb and Kennedy Wesley lead the league in completed passes. The development of young talents such as Melanie Barcenas and Kimmi Ascanio has also been crucial.

Eidevall highlights the unique challenges of the NWSL, including a more competitive landscape where top teams frequently drop points. He notes, "Training [here] is also a challenge" due to limited roster sizes, which necessitates creative coaching methods.

Under his guidance, San Diego Wave has set new club records for wins and goals, achieving the second-highest possession share in the league. Eidevall emphasizes that success stems from a strong identity, allowing players to express their creativity.

Reflecting on his time at Arsenal, Eidevall acknowledges lessons learned about tactical fluidity and central connections, which have influenced his approach at San Diego. With the playoffs approaching, he remains focused on building a strong, connected team capable of achieving greatness.
