Matthew Brennan, the British rider and Grand Tour debutant from Visma-Lease a Bike, achieved his second stage victory at the Vuelta a España during stage five in Roquetes. Brennan showcased his remarkable speed, finishing off a 173.4km route from Falset with a confident sprint.

In a well-coordinated effort, teammates Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte expertly led the 21-year-old to the finish line. Brennan's victory marks his second from two sprint opportunities in this year's final Grand Tour of the season.

The stage concluded with Jordi Meeus of Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe taking second place and Vincenzo Albanese from EF Education–EasyPost finishing third. Meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar of UAE-Team Emirates XRG maintained his commanding lead in the general classification, sitting 3 minutes and 21 seconds ahead of the pack.

A five-rider breakaway initially formed, featuring Walter Calzoni (Pinarello Q36.5), Stefan Küng (Tudor), Mattia Gaffuri (Picnic PostNL), Diego Uriarte (Equipo Kern Pharm), and Fredrik Dversnes (Uno-X Mobility). However, they were caught by the peloton with about 100km remaining, as Lidl-Trek increased the pace amid challenging crosswinds.

On this first day of racing entirely on Spanish roads, Ethan Hayter from Soudal Quick-Step claimed maximum points at the intermediate sprint after 114.7km. Despite earlier challenges, the Visma-Lease a Bike team dominated the final segments of the race.

Brennan expressed his gratitude, stating, "It’s better than a normal day job, it’s fantastic. I’m just very thankful to finish it off again." Van Aert praised Brennan's performance, saying, "When you have Matt in a group like that, it’s the best card to play."

Looking ahead, the next stage on Thursday will cover 177.5km from Alcossebre to Castelló, featuring 3,080m of climbing.
