Jonas Vingegaard celebrated his victory at the Giro d’Italia on Sunday, securing a significant milestone in his career by completing the prestigious Grand Tour double. The final stage, held in the scenic surroundings of Rome, concluded with a win by local favorite Jonathan Milan.

Vingegaard entered the Italian capital needing only to finish the flat stage to clinch his overall victory and achieve the coveted triple crown of road cycling's three-week competitions. As a rider for Visma-Lease a Bike, he became the eighth cyclist in history to win the Giro, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España, joining legends such as Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx, and Vincenzo Nibali.

Looking ahead, Vingegaard now sets his sights on the Tour de France in July, where he will face off against his primary rival, Tadej Pogacar. During the Giro, Vingegaard dominated the race without significant challenges, concluding with an impressive five stage wins and finishing with a margin of five minutes and 22 seconds over Felix Gall, who achieved his best Grand Tour result.

“Winning all three is very special for me, it’s difficult to find the words to describe it,” Vingegaard expressed to RAI. He plans to enjoy a few days in Rome with his family before returning to Denmark to prepare for the upcoming Tour de France.

In a noteworthy performance, Jonathan Milan secured his first stage win of the Giro, highlighting a challenging competition for him as he could not prevent Paul Magnier from winning the points jersey for sprinters.
