Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jeshaun Jones has been handed a three-game suspension without pay for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. This suspension will commence on August 30, although Jones is permitted to participate in the Vikings' remaining preseason activities.

Eligible for reinstatement on September 28, the final day of Week 3, Jones faces an uphill battle to secure a spot on the Vikings' roster. The team is expected to keep a limited number of wide receivers, primarily featuring superstar Justin Jefferson, returning No. 2 weapon Jordan Addison, and offseason acquisition Jauan Jennings.

The NFL has not disclosed the specific substance linked to Jones's positive test, a result of changes to the substance abuse policy implemented in 2024. Each player undergoes an annual test for seven types of classified substances, including:

• Cocaine
• Synthetic marijuana
• Amphetamines
• Opiates
• Opioids
• PCP
• MDMA

Players in the substance abuse program can also be subjected to up to 10 tests per month. Jones has been a fluctuating presence on the Vikings' roster since joining as an undrafted free agent in 2024, having spent time on the practice squad during both of his professional seasons. His playing time is limited, with only one career appearance, which occurred in the final game of the 2025 regular season, where he served as Minnesota's punt returner and recorded a five-yard return.
