The Americans, who struggled offensively, led narrowly at 42-39 after three quarters and faced deficits of two points on three occasions in the final period. Stewart’s jumper, assisted by Young, put the US ahead 51-50 with 3:20 remaining. Young extended the lead with a floater, and Chelsea Gray added a pull-up shot with just over a minute left, creating a crucial cushion. Despite Italy’s quick response to cut the score to 55-52, Young's rebound on a missed shot helped the US manage the final moments effectively.

Cecilia Zandalasini of Italy had a tense ending, missing a three-pointer to tie the game and expressing frustration towards the referees, claiming an eye poke on the play. She later apologized for her reaction, stating, "I should have kept them inside of me a little better."
