Britain’s Winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes are set to benefit from a historic funding boost of over £33 million from UK Sport as they prepare for the Alpes 2030 Games. This investment marks a significant increase of £8 million compared to the previous cycle, reflecting UK Sport’s confidence in the potential of British winter sports.

In the lead-up to the Milan-Cortina Games, more than £25 million was allocated across 11 sports, resulting in GB’s best-ever medal table finish with 15th place and a total of five medals, matching the record from Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018. Notable achievements included three gold medals from Charlotte Bankes, Huw Nightingale, and Matt Weston, marking a breakthrough for GB winter sports.

However, disappointment lingered with near-misses, such as the men's curling team's loss in the gold medal match and fourth-place finishes from Kirsty Muir and Mia Brookes.

UK Sport’s announcement emphasized a commitment to maximizing performance through a revamped funding model and the introduction of Sport Org, a multi-sport performance delivery organization designed to enhance collaboration among winter sports bodies. Key allocations from the funding include:

• £10 million for bobsleigh and skeleton
• £6.5 million for curling
• £1.9 million for wheelchair curling
• £12.5 million earmarked for snowsport athletes, pending a new delivery model.

The funding approach will not be administered through GB Snowsport, prompting a response from the organization expressing disappointment but commitment to support athletes. UK Sport aims to ensure that funding reaches athletes effectively, maintaining a focus on future successes on the global stage.
