UFC icon Dustin Poirier confirmed that his contract with Bud Light was “terminated immediately” after a public drunkenness arrest at an airport in June. Body-camera footage showed the 37-year-old American inebriated and threatening an officer, following his removal from a flight in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the footage, Poirier can be heard saying, “I’ll fight you right now,” and questioning, “Are you going to tase me?” as an officer attempts to defuse the situation. After being handcuffed, he acknowledged the officer’s efforts, stating, “You did a great job, you did what you could.” Poirier was released on bail and later apologized, admitting he needs “help” with his alcohol issues.

Discussing the fallout, Poirier told journalist Ariel Helwani:

• “[Bud Light] terminated my contract immediately.”
• “It sucks that my family loses out on the money I had left on the deal, which is a few hundred thousand dollars.”
• “I’m not going to be taking part in promoting something I don’t believe in.”

Reflecting on his struggles with alcohol, Poirier stated: “It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserve me at 100%.” He emphasized the importance of seeking help and staying busy post-retirement.

Poirier retired after a loss to Max Holloway in July 2025, having previously faced Conor McGregor in a trilogy of fights. He remains a beloved figure in the UFC, known not only for his fighting prowess but also for his charitable contributions in Louisiana. Since retiring, he has taken on a role as a fight analyst for the UFC.
