Mike Malott is set to headline UFC Fight Night in Edmonton on October 17, seeking to claim Joaquin Buckley's No. 10 welterweight ranking. This marks Malott's seventh consecutive fight in Canada, where he aims to continue his winning streak after knocking out veteran Gilbert Burns in April.

Joaquin Buckley (21-8), known as New Mansa, faces a pivotal moment in his career. Following notable victories against Stephen Thompson and Colby Covington, Buckley’s momentum was stalled by grappling losses to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady. Despite this, he remains confident and emphasizes the importance of offense in his fighting strategy. He stated, "I can't be concerned about what the other man is going to do. I just have to put myself in a position where I'm always on the offensive."

Malott (14-2-1) has taken on a significant role for Canadian MMA, becoming a beacon for fans. He believes in his preparation over scripting a fight, noting, "Man, fighting is chaos. Preparing the skills for whatever could arise is key."

The co-main event features Erin Blanchfield facing Jasmine Jasudavicius, with implications for the women's flyweight title following Valentina Shevchenko’s injury-related vacancy. Blanchfield, seen as a future title contender, seeks a decisive win to bolster her case for a title shot.

The fight card showcases a total of 13 bouts, with most featuring Canadian fighters. Melissa Croden stands out as a significant favorite in her bout.
