UEFA is set to commission an independent valuation of FIFA’s World Cup sale plans amid concerns that Gianni Infantino may have agreed to sell future profits of the tournament to a private equity firm at below market value. This decision follows Infantino's written apology to FIFA’s 211 member associations after crisis talks in Morocco, yet UEFA remains undeterred in its push for his removal.

The FIFA Forward Enterprise plan, which was abandoned after just four days, proposed selling a 21% stake to Thrive Capital for $4.2 billion. Thrive Capital is led by Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law. UEFA played a pivotal role in FIFA’s reversal, which came after all 55 member associations threatened to boycott the World Cup and other tournaments.

UEFA is now investigating how the $20 billion valuation of FIFA’s commercial assets was determined. It has consulted several market analysts regarding an independent valuation, with a formal study expected once the situation around Infantino stabilizes.

Concerns have been raised as FIFA’s recent sales deck lacked details on the valuation process or evidence of a competitive tender. A source familiar with UEFA's plans stated, "We need to find out if they were selling the World Cup at a knockdown price."

FIFA’s revenues for the four-year cycle leading to this summer’s World Cup totaled $15 billion, prompting analysts to suggest that a $20 billion valuation is low, especially without provisions for tournament expansion.

UEFA has also called for a thorough review of FIFA’s governance and has threatened legal action. Despite internal dissent from key figures like Mattias Grafström and Kevin Lamour, Infantino maintains that he has the "full support" of FIFA, indicating that any push for change will have to come from outside the organization.
