Uefa has reinforced its stance that European countries will boycott the World Cup if Gianni Infantino remains in his role as FIFA president. This announcement came just hours after FIFA expressed its unwavering support for Infantino, who is currently under significant pressure to resign due to a failed attempt to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

The proposed plan faced widespread condemnation and was firmly rejected by Uefa and two other continental confederations. Uefa declared that its 55 member countries would not participate in FIFA competitions until the controversial plan was completely withdrawn.

In a statement, Uefa emphasized that:

• The proposals to sell off major competitions must be retracted.
• Assurances are needed to prevent any future attempts to alter the integrity of the sport.

Uefa stated that these conditions remain unmet, reiterating its loss of confidence in Infantino's presidency. They made it clear that the recent support from some FIFA employees does not change their position.

FIFA, following a crisis meeting in Morocco, issued a letter signed by secretary general Mattias Grafstrom and Infantino, warning against any attacks on its integrity and stating that it would take necessary measures to protect its reputation.

Uefa has also been critical of Infantino's management style, especially regarding the Folarin Balogun situation. The ongoing boycott raises concerns about the participation of European teams in the upcoming Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, which is just under a year before the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
