England defender Lucy Bronze publicly supports a potential Uefa boycott of FIFA competitions, viewing it as the "right thing" for the future of football, despite potential repercussions for women's football.

Following FIFA president Gianni Infantino's announcement to sell stakes in competitions to private investors, Uefa's 55 member associations voted to boycott all FIFA competitions until the proposals were withdrawn. Although Infantino has since apologized for his "errors" and the plans have been scrapped, Uefa has indicated that a boycott remains a possibility.

If Uefa proceeds with the boycott, women's football would be the first to feel the effects, particularly with the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup set to commence on September 5. Six European teams, including England, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and hosts Poland, are scheduled to compete.

Bronze emphasized the importance of standing by principles, stating, "If that means boycotting competitions, then that has to happen. It’s for the future of the game... for all the little girls or little boys who come after us."

In October, qualifiers for the Women's World Cup in Brazil are on the horizon, which could be disrupted by Uefa's stance. This disruption could prevent European teams, including defending champions Spain, from participating in the tournament.

Former England defender Anita Asante highlighted that women’s tournaments would be the first casualties of this situation, while Baroness Campbell, former Football Association director of women's football, described it as "tragic". The English FA has already retracted its support for Infantino, joined by associations from Wales, Albania, and Croatia.
