Britain's Beth Shriever made history by becoming the first BMX racer to secure four elite world titles at the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane. The event faced significant disruption due to extreme weather conditions, which led to the abandonment of the final race.

Persistent strong winds delayed the race's start, forcing the UCI to take results from the first round held the day before. Shriever, aged 27, recorded the fastest lap time in the women's event, thus being crowned champion for an unprecedented fourth time.

In the men's competition, fellow Briton Ross Cullen clinched the silver medal, finishing second to Jesse Asmus of Australia, who achieved the fastest lap.

Shriever's latest victory adds to her previous world titles won in 2021, 2023, and 2025, along with her Olympic gold from Tokyo 2020. Reflecting on her win, Shriever stated, "I've dreamed about doing this, but obviously not in this way... I couldn't believe how quick yesterday was so, yeah, we'll take it."

She acknowledged the disappointment of not racing under normal conditions, saying, "We wanted to do it properly today but we can't control the weather and it was too dangerous out there today."

According to UCI regulations, if a championship is cancelled, the last completed round determines the final results. The decision to abandon the race had the backing of various stakeholders, including the UCI Athletes' Commission and the Local Organising Committee.

In the women's junior event, Freia Challis edged out fellow Briton Elsa Rendall Todd to secure the gold medal.
