British athletes Amy Hunt and Georgia Hunter Bell faced tough competition at Thursday’s Diamond League meeting in Zurich, finishing fifth and third in their respective events.

Amy Hunt, fresh off her four gold medals at the European Championships, clocked 11.04 seconds in the women’s 100 metres, which was won by Olympic champion Julien Alfred in 10.70 seconds. Despite her efforts, Hunt finished behind Jamaica's Tina Clayton and acknowledged her limitations due to fatigue, stating, "To come fifth in that line-up... I’m really happy with that."

In the women’s 800m, Georgia Hunter Bell ran a season's best of 1:55.03, but could not match the pace of Audrey Werro, who won in 1:53.70, just shy of the world record. The absence of Keely Hodgkinson did not deter the quality of the race, as Werro triumphed over Femke Broeders-Bol.

The evening was marked by two world record-breaking performances:

• Alison dos Santos from Brazil set a new men’s 400m hurdles record with 45.80 seconds, surpassing Karsten Warholm’s previous mark.
• Masai Russell from the USA lowered the women’s 100m hurdles record to 12.09 seconds, eclipsing Tobi Amusan’s 2012 record of 12.12 seconds.

In the men’s pole vault, Mondo Duplantis narrowly missed a world record attempt at 6.32m, ultimately winning with a vault of 6.25m, while Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis achieved a personal best of 6.20m.
