US President Donald Trump joined a crowd of hundreds to witness the IndyCar race through the streets of Washington DC on Sunday, marking the grand finale of summer events celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday.

Kyle Kirkwood emerged victorious in the race, securing his seventh career IndyCar win. Before the race commenced, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump took a ceremonial lap around the 1.7-mile track in his presidential limousine, The Beast. As they crossed the finish line, Trump's new Air Force One performed a flyover over the capital.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix marked a historic moment as it was the first professional road racing event held in the capital. Despite Washington DC having the lowest speed limit in the United States at 55 mph (89 km/h), drivers reached exhilarating speeds of up to 190 mph (306 km/h).

Organizers anticipated about 140,000 attendees, with many receiving free general admission tickets through a lottery system. However, premium packages were sold for $5,000 for a pair of passes.

The event required extensive logistical and security measures, leading to significant road closures and even a three-hour airspace restriction at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to facilitate the military flyover.
