Real Betis are in advanced talks with AZ Alkmaar regarding a €20 million (£17.1 million) deal to acquire Troy Parrott, the Republic of Ireland striker.

An agreement between the Dutch club and Spain's Betis is reportedly close, marking a significant step in Parrott's career. Previously, West Ham had shown strong interest in the 24-year-old forward, who initiated his professional journey at Tottenham Hotspur.

Parrott made the switch to AZ Alkmaar in July 2024, following a season-long loan at Excelsior Rotterdam. His time in the Netherlands began with impressive form, netting 10 goals in his first seven matches. However, a knee ligament injury sustained at the end of August sidelined him until October.

Despite the setback, Parrott concluded the Dutch league season with 16 goals in 28 appearances. His contributions on the international stage further solidified his reputation, helping the Republic of Ireland secure a spot in the World Cup play-offs. Notably, in November, he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Portugal and followed up with a hat-trick, including a dramatic 96th-minute winner in a 3-2 triumph against Hungary.

This achievement made him the first Republic of Ireland player to score a hat-trick in an away game for the men's team, and the first to achieve a competitive treble since Robbie Keane in 2014. With 37 caps to his name, Parrott is poised to play a crucial role for Heimir Hallgrimsson's side in the upcoming Nations League, where they will face Kosovo, Austria, and Israel in Group B3.

Following a successful season, Real Betis finished fifth in La Liga for the 2025-26 season, which secured them a place in the Champions League.
