The Indianapolis 500, one of motorsport's most iconic events, embraced a poignant atmosphere this Sunday as tributes flowed for the late racing legend Kyle Busch. His unexpected passing cast a shadow over the "Racing Capital of the World," where his legacy was celebrated throughout the day.

Dale Coyne Racing paid homage by altering the font on Romain Grosjean's No. 18 car, reflecting the distinctive style used by the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and two-time Brickyard 400 winner during his 14 seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing. Busch’s name resonated during the opening prayer, and on Lap 18, officials illuminated the scoring pylon beside the pit lane with his name, birth year, and the number 2026.

Busch, a father of two, died on Thursday at the age of 41. His family confirmed that the cause of death was severe pneumonia, which tragically progressed into sepsis. His remarkable career included 234 victories across NASCAR’s three national series, more than any other driver, solidifying his status as a titan in the sport.

Reflecting on the profound loss, Katherine Legge stated, "It’s desperately sad. It’s also one of those things where you try not to think about it or let it in because you’ve got so much to do, you can’t let yourself get emotional. But honestly, racing has lost one of the greatest drivers, in my opinion, of all time. He was a legend."

Two-time Indy winner Josef Newgarden also expressed his shock and sorrow, emphasizing the fragility of life and his concern for Busch’s children.
