In a thrilling finish, Vollering outpaced race leader Reusser, securing her fourth stage victory in the Tour. "Today was a really cool race," Vollering remarked, highlighting her team's collective effort. "I enjoy those victories the most... it was a huge relief."

Ferrand-Prévot's struggles became evident as she faced a five-minute deficit to her competitors, declaring at the finish, "I think it’s unrecoverable." Despite earlier hopes of closing the gap, her performance faltered dramatically on the challenging Col de Durbize, where Vollering's acceleration left her behind.

The fifth stage confirmed Ferrand-Prévot's vulnerability, following a disappointing showing in the previous time trial. As the lead group surged ahead, her title defense effectively crumbled in the heat of the afternoon.
