Tadej Pogacar solidified his quest for a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title with a commanding victory on stage six, reclaiming the prestigious yellow jersey. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider showcased his prowess on the legendary Col du Tourmalet, conquering the 186.2km mountain stage with remarkable ease.

Pogacar, 27, aims to join cycling legends Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Indurain as the most successful riders in Tour history. His decisive attack five kilometers from the summit allowed him to extend his lead, finishing two minutes 38 seconds ahead of rival Jonas Vingegaard from Visma-Lease a Bike.

Key highlights from the stage include:

• Pogacar gained 30 seconds over Vingegaard and a staggering one minute 45 seconds over Remco Evenepoel and Paul Seixas.
• His teammate, Isaac del Toro, crossed the line just 19 seconds after Vingegaard, along with Evenepoel and Seixas.

Vingegaard, 29, has shown a remarkable return to form after a serious crash in 2024 but struggled to match Pogacar's explosive pace. Despite winning the Vuelta a Espana and Giro d'Italia recently, Thursday's performance highlighted the growing gap between the two rivals since Vingegaard last defeated Pogacar in 2023.

“It is one of my top five wins [ever],” Pogacar reflected, recalling past challenges on the Tourmalet. He expressed pride in his team’s efforts and excitement for the remaining stages.

In the general classification, Pogacar leads Vingegaard by two minutes 42 seconds, with Del Toro in third, three minutes 27 seconds back. Meanwhile, Tom Pidcock from Britain sits in 15th place, nine minutes 50 seconds down, but remains hopeful for stage victories despite recent health setbacks. Egan Bernal, the 2019 Tour champion, is the highest-placed rider for Netcompany Ineos in 11th, nine minutes 15 seconds behind.
