Isaac del Toro celebrated a remarkable victory on stage two of the Tour de France in Barcelona, facilitated by teammate Tadej Pogacar. The 22-year-old Mexican, making his debut in the prestigious cycling event, triumphed just days after Jonas Vingegaard and his Visma-Lease a Bike squad won the opening team time trial.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG dominated stage two, achieving a one-two finish with Pogacar and Del Toro. Vingegaard crossed the line in fourth place, just behind Remco Evenepoel, maintaining a six-second lead over Pogacar overall after bonus time adjustments.

Del Toro described his win as surreal, stating, "It means really everything. I cannot believe what I just did. It’s insane. A rider like Tadej, being in the same team as him, the best team in the world, I’m full of emotion."

He recounted the challenges of the stage, including a mechanical issue that forced him to chase back into contention. Del Toro explained, "We were going super fast... then I tried to bring back Skjelmose and we made a plan for Tadej. I did it, but then the gap was bigger so I just went with the flow to the finish line."

As the race progresses, the next stage will take place on Monday in an “adapted” format due to ongoing forest fires in southern France, which have already scorched around 1,500 hectares and mobilized approximately 700 firefighters. The prefect has announced that there will be no spectators along the route in France, marking a unique and challenging scenario for the Tour.
