Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert remains focused on the upcoming season despite the looming Football Association charge related to the Spygate scandal. The 33-year-old coach faces misconduct allegations for approving the observation of rival training sessions, an issue that has been on his mind since the Saints were disqualified from the Championship play-offs last May after admitting to spying on three clubs.

The FA has indicated that Eckert acted in an improper manner, potentially bringing the game into disrepute. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Saints owner Dragan Solak has publicly stated that he will not dismiss Eckert, although that decision could change if a lengthy ban is imposed.

In an interview with BBC Radio Solent, Eckert acknowledged the charge's impact but emphasized his love for football and the importance of preparation. He stated:

"I would be lying if I said that it is not in the back of my mind... I just keep my head down, working, and I think the boys are in a good place."

Currently, the Southampton squad is in Germany for a pre-season training camp, where they have already played friendlies against Eastleigh and Eintracht Braunschweig, as well as a closed-door match against SC Paderborn. They are set to face Preussen Munster on Saturday, followed by a Carabao Cup match against Colchester the following weekend.

Eckert is optimistic about the new season, aiming for a top-two finish in the Championship. He noted:

"There's going to be some challenges... but in the end it's down to us. We've shown what we are capable of doing and we need to make sure we connect to that as quick as possible."
