Fans will need a subscription to watch the finals of the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League after TNT Sports decided against making them free-to-air. This marks the first time since the Champions League's inception in 1992 that supporters will have to pay to watch it.

The three major events will feature English clubs:

• Aston Villa meets Freiburg in the Europa League on Wednesday (20:00 BST).
• Crystal Palace faces Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League on 27 May (20:00 BST).
• Arsenal takes on Paris St-Germain in the Champions League on 30 May (17:00 BST).

BBC Sport understands that Uefa is disappointed, arguing that the finals should remain free-to-air. However, the rights holder has the final say on how to broadcast the games. Six years ago, the government rejected a proposal to add the Champions League final to the list of "crown jewels" events, which would have ensured it remained free-to-air.

Highlights of the Champions League final will be available on the BBC Sport website and social media channels 15 minutes after the final whistle, and on BBC iPlayer and television later that evening. Live commentary of all three finals will air on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The Champions League final was free on ITV for its first 23 years until BT Sport acquired the rights starting from 2015-16. BT Sport had made it accessible without a subscription until 2023. However, after being bought by Warner Bros Discovery and rebranded as TNT Sports, the model changed, requiring a discovery+ account for access. Now, HBO Max has replaced discovery+, offering a monthly subscription starting at £4.99, which covers all three matches.

From 2027-28, TNT Sports will lose its European rights, with Paramount+ acquiring the Champions League and Sky Sports taking over the Europa League and Conference League rights. Warner Bros Discovery has been approached for comment.
