Tens of thousands of Spaniards gathered in central Madrid to celebrate the national football team's historic World Cup victory against Argentina. The triumphant team, known as La Roja, returned home after their 1-0 win in the final held in New Jersey on Sunday night.

The players, led by captain Rodri, were welcomed at Madrid’s Barajas airport at 2:30 PM local time on Monday. Rodri proudly displayed the trophy, wearing his medal from the previous night’s match. Fans, donning the national colors and waving flags, eagerly awaited a glimpse of their heroes.

The team first visited King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and their daughters at the Zarzuela palace. The king praised the team’s talent and perseverance, stating, "It’s been an epic triumph. You’ve suffered, you’ve come home bruised and tired, but what is all that compared with the joy of bringing the cup home?"

Next, they met Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the Moncloa palace, where he expressed his gratitude for their efforts and victory. Rodri remarked, "Winning for your country is the most beautiful thing there is."

The highlight of the celebrations was the victory parade, which wound from Moncloa to Plaza de Cibeles. Fans braved 34C heat, some seeking shade under umbrellas, as the team rode in an open-topped bus. Madrid’s mayor, José Luis Martínez Almeida, noted the peaceful atmosphere, emphasizing the city’s commitment to honoring the team.

This victory marks Spain's second men's World Cup win, following their triumph in 2010. The match captivated hundreds of thousands across the country, celebrated as a unique collective experience. Political leaders echoed the public's enthusiasm, with Sánchez exclaiming, "WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!" and other officials praising the team's hard work and dedication.
