Michael Carrick has expressed confidence in Kobbie Mainoo's potential to have a standout season at Manchester United, despite the fierce competition in the midfield.

This summer, United made significant investments in that area, acquiring Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans. However, Mainoo's impressive performance in the starting XI against Ipswich Town highlighted his importance to Carrick's plans.

Carrick emphasized Mainoo’s growth both on and off the pitch, stating:

Kobbie Mainoo can have another big season. He has come back great, and you can see him growing in personality and maturity. He is still so young, and there is loads to still come from him, which is great.

In United's 5-2 victory over Ipswich, Mainoo showcased his composure and ability to facilitate play, allowing Bruno Fernandes greater freedom. While competition will heighten with Baleba's return from injury, Carrick believes this will foster Mainoo’s development rather than hinder it.

Carrick also praised Mainoo's eagerness to learn, noting his willingness to absorb tactical advice during training. With the influx of new midfielders, questions arose regarding Mainoo’s role, but his performance suggested those concerns were premature.

Mainoo brings a unique skill set to the team, excelling in tight spaces and under pressure, differentiating him from his competitors. Carrick now has the flexibility to tailor his midfield combinations based on opponents.

The key challenge for Mainoo will be maintaining consistency. While he has shown glimpses of his high potential, becoming a regular starter will require him to deliver at that level consistently.
