NEW YORK — The Yankees' clubhouse painted a stark contrast to the sentiments expressed by manager Aaron Boone after their season-ending loss. Boone lamented, "It's a broken clubhouse," as the team faced the reality of being swept at home by the relentless Rays.

Despite the disappointment of a second consecutive ALDS exit, players appeared surprisingly relaxed, some even smiling. The atmosphere lacked urgency, reflecting the modern Yankees' struggle to perform when it counts.

• The Yankees can reach the postseason, win divisions, and secure wild card spots.
• However, they falter under pressure, with outfielder Cody Bellinger acknowledging the team's talent but lamenting their inability to succeed.

The Dodgers showcased how a true big-market club operates, contrasting sharply with the Yankees' reliance on power hitting while neglecting fundamental skills. General manager Brian Cashman and Boone have overseen a decline in these essential aspects, which became evident during the series against the Rays.

In Game 2, the Yankees committed four errors, three in the first inning, and in Game 1, Austin Wells made a critical mistake by attempting to stretch a double into a triple.

Even in Game 3, where they played better, the Yankees couldn't overcome a shaky performance from starter Max Fried, who allowed a decisive two-run homer to Victor Mesa Jr.

With injuries sidelining star player Aaron Judge and limiting Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees still faced the harsh reality of being swept by a team with a significantly lower payroll. This marks 17 years without a World Series title, raising questions about the Yankees' expectations and philosophies moving forward.

As Boone stated, this experience should serve as motivation to improve and meet championship standards, but the team's recent history casts doubt on those aspirations. Ben Rice succinctly summarized the series:

They outplayed us, plain and simple.
