Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall has announced the end of her 2026 season after suffering a severe concussion from a car crash. This unfortunate decision means the 27-year-old American will miss the upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Hungary.

In her emotional social media post, Davis-Woodhall expressed her feelings:

This one hurts. I'm sad, disappointed and just hurt by all of it. I know this has to be part of my story. There has to be a reason for this. I'll never question God's path for me. I will be back. Just a hitch in my giddy-up.

Davis-Woodhall, who clinched long jump gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and topped the podium at the Worlds in Tokyo the following year, was involved in a "very scary" head-on collision in August while traveling to training. She clarified that while her injuries were not life-threatening, both vehicles involved in the crash were written off, as they were moving at approximately 20 mph.

The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is set to begin on September 11, featuring top athletes who will compete for a top prize of £111,000. This prestigious event unites Olympic, world, and Diamond League champions, alongside the year's leading performers, in a three-day celebration of athletic excellence.
