Just over two months after the Formula 1 spectacle in Monaco, Pogacar relied solely on his cycling ability to claim the win, besting Ethan Hayter of Britain, who had initially seemed poised to take the red jersey. Pogacar, starting last among the 184 riders, made a significant late surge through the final curves, despite being slightly behind on the split times earlier in the race.

In an emotional display, Britain's Josh Tarling finished third, just days after the tragic loss of his brother, Fin, who passed away at the age of 19 during the Volta a Portugal. His race director, Geraint Thomas, praised Tarling's determination, emphasizing the team's commitment to supporting him during this challenging time.

The 81st edition of the Vuelta marks Monaco's seventh non-Spain start and continues the trend of hosting the event in various locations, including last year's Piemonte and upcoming Lisbon and Utrecht. As the final grand tour of the year unfolds, Pogacar aims to join an elite group of riders who have won all three major tours.
