Tadej Pogacar has hinted at the possibility of participating in the Vuelta a España, but emphasized the importance of savoring his recent triumph at the Tour de France before making a final decision.

Pogacar made history by securing a record-equalling fifth yellow jersey in Paris on Sunday, matching legends like Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil, Miguel Indurain, and Bernard Hinault. At just 27 years old, he has dominated the Tour, winning the last three editions, and appears poised to chase even greater achievements.

Despite being a 13-time Monument champion and the 2024 Giro d’Italia victor, the Vuelta remains one of the few significant titles that eludes him. Since his debut in 2019, where he clinched a podium finish at the age of 20, Pogacar has not raced in Spain. He remains undecided about competing this year, stating:

• “Right now, if it starts tomorrow, I would say no.”
• “In two weeks, I can still decide.”

He expressed a desire to relish the moment, stating, “I just want to enjoy this moment, and come back home and enjoy the small things in life.” Each Tour victory carries its unique story and emotions for him.

A win at the Vuelta would complete Pogacar's Grand Tour set, a feat only achieved by eight male riders. His rival, Jonas Vingegaard, joined this elite group after winning the Giro earlier this year.

The Vuelta is set to commence from Monaco and will span across four countries over three weeks. Pogacar is cautious about potential burnout, having previously experienced fatigue during his fourth Tour victory. He remarked:

• “I need to think about this. Keep the feet on the ground.”

Pogacar’s careful approach reflects his commitment to maintaining his performance and enjoyment of the sport.
