The Sydney Marathon returns in 2026, featuring a record-breaking 41,000 runners for the seventh World Marathon Major of the year.

Last year’s champions notably shattered the course records, with Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros completing the race in 2:06:06 and Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan finishing in 2:18:22. The elite field promises high competition as reigning world champions Alphonce Simbu and Peres Jepchirchir are set to compete. Noteworthy entrants include Sisay Lemma, a former Boston and London Marathon winner, and Hagos Gebrhiwet, making his marathon debut.

In the women’s category, Olympic champion Jepchirchir is the favorite, but she faces strong competition from Irine Cheptai, Magdalena Shauri of Tanzania, and multiple world champion Vivian Cheruiyot.
