A Swat team and numerous armed police responded to a serious incident just over a mile from where England is set to kick off their World Cup campaign. This occurred on Monday in Arlington, Texas, as dozens of police vehicles lined West Division Street.

The situation escalated with the deployment of police snipers, an armored BearCat vehicle, and drones. An officer at the scene described the incident as “pretty serious,” involving a suspect brandishing a weapon. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the suspect has since been taken into custody.

The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between a male and female at their residence. A spokesperson for the Arlington Police Department clarified that the female resident was barricaded inside the home with additional occupants. The investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication that this incident was connected to the World Cup or posed any threat to the tournament.

This incident follows the recent theft of some of England’s training equipment, which included boots and official tournament balls. While the stolen items were not irreplaceable, two men, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, have been charged with receiving stolen property, facing up to seven years in prison.

As the team prepares for their match against Croatia on Wednesday, they have already played two warm-up friendlies in the U.S. against New Zealand and Costa Rica. Additionally, they arranged a behind-closed-doors match in Florida to adapt to local conditions.
