Stuart McCloskey, the standout centre for Ireland, has signed a one-year contract extension with Ulster, ensuring his presence at the province until the end of the 2027-28 season.

At 33 years old, McCloskey enjoyed a remarkable 2025-26 season, where his dominant midfield performances contributed significantly to Ireland's achievement of the Triple Crown in this year's Six Nations. His exceptional displays earned him a spot on the shortlist for the Six Nations Player of the Championship.

For Ulster, McCloskey was a consistent performer, participating in 13 matches and aiding the team in reaching the final of the European Challenge Cup. Unfortunately, after an impressive semi-final victory against Exeter Chiefs, he suffered a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the final against Montpellier.

With 217 appearances for Ulster, McCloskey is on the brink of matching Rory Best for the third most senior Ulster appearances, just one shy of 218. Now back to full fitness, he is set to focus on Ireland's inaugural Nations Championship this summer, featuring tests against Australia, Japan, and New Zealand in July.

Expressing his commitment, McCloskey stated that Ulster feels like his "home" and he is optimistic following a "whirlwind season". He emphasized the team's development and their ability to compete against formidable opponents, citing the strong talent emerging within the squad.

Rory Best, Ulster's general manager, highlighted that extending McCloskey's contract is crucial for the team's future, praising him as one of the top international centres globally and a valuable mentor for younger players.
