Drew Allar made a remarkable debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers, exceeding expectations during their 28-9 victory against the Green Bay Packers on August 12, 2023. Allar, who is competing with second-year quarterback Will Howard, played the majority of the second half, showcasing his skills with a stellar performance that included:

• 10 of 13 completions for 153 yards
• 2 touchdown passes and a 3-yard touchdown run
• An impressive 154.8 passer rating

Allar looked at ease running the Steelers' offense, making quick decisions and accurate passes while effectively utilizing red zone opportunities. The Steelers' quarterback unit collectively achieved 27 completions on 33 attempts for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns, boasting a 128.8 passer rating.

Reflecting on his debut, Allar noted, "Honestly, I feel like the adjustment for me at the NFL level came during rookie OTAs and OTAs in general... I feel like that really mentally prepared me to go out there and just handle everything."

During the first half, Will Howard also impressed, leading a successful two-minute drill resulting in the game’s first touchdown. Howard, making his NFL debut, completed 7 of 9 passes for 86 yards. Meanwhile, Mason Rudolph started the game, going 10 of 11 for 93 yards in his two series.

Allar continued to shine in the second half, executing a quick five-play, 80-yard drive capped off by his touchdown run. He then led another impressive drive, completing all 7 passes for 69 yards, including a five-yard touchdown pass to rookie Kaden Wetjen.
