This act mirrored Capdevila’s pre-match ritual from 2010, when he buried a coin before Spain's historic victory over the Netherlands in South Africa.

The newly-signed Real Madrid player was seen discreetly removing a coin from his sock and pushing it into the grass at MetLife Stadium moments before the match commenced.

After Spain's thrilling extra-time win against Argentina, thanks to a decisive goal from Ferran Torres in the 106th minute, Capdevila took to X to share his excitement. He revealed that he had specifically asked Cucurella to perform the same ritual, stating, "Marc, I love you so much. YOU ARE A WORLD CHAMPION!"

Capdevila, who played a pivotal role in Spain's golden era, faced challenges leading up to the final due to issues with his ESTA application, which was denied because of a previous visit to Iran. He publicly appealed for help from US President Donald Trump, expressing his frustration about potentially missing the final with his children.
