Spain's last training session before the World Cup final on Sunday has been canceled due to severe thunderstorms impacting the New York City area. FIFA confirmed the schedule change on Saturday, stating there would be no rescheduled training slot for the team.

The Spanish national team was set to practice at the Melanie Lane Training Ground in New Jersey, but the session was suspended following the US storm safety protocol. The Spanish federation announced, "The players are currently taking part in a warm-up session indoors."

The highly anticipated final is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) on Sunday. Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether Argentina's training session, planned for 11:30 a.m. local time (1530 GMT), will proceed as scheduled.

While the rain poses challenges, it could help alleviate the thick wildfire smoke that has engulfed the New York City area, originating from hundreds of wildfires across Canada. This week, the eastern United States has faced air quality warnings due to the smoke.

Despite the hazardous conditions, Spain trained outdoors on Friday, disregarding expert warnings about health risks. Forecasters from AccuWeather have predicted that the World Cup final at New York New Jersey Stadium will experience minimal effects from the smoke, with an expected attendance of over 80,000 fans.

Meteorologist Adam Douty noted, "Air quality may still be below 'good levels' on Sunday, but conditions should improve significantly from Saturday's 'poor to unhealthy' levels. It will also be less humid, contributing to a more comfortable atmosphere."

Local authorities have advised residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities as hazy skies linger over the region.
